Clean Air Action Group

Launch Event: The Charlton Kings Clean Air Action Group

Wed, 30 Oct 2024 19:00

Join Charlton Kings Clean Air Action Group: A Community Movement for Healthier Air

Air quality isn't just a global issue—it's a local one that directly affects our health, wellbeing, and environment here in Charlton Kings. Building on the insights shared in our April event, Clean Air Cheltenham is launching a new initiative, "Charlton Kings Clean Air Action Group," with our full support—and we need your involvement to make a real difference!

Why It Matters:

Poor air quality can have serious impacts on our community's health, from respiratory conditions to cardiovascular issues. During our last event, we explored Cheltenham's air quality standards, the latest research, and local monitoring data, including insights from the air quality monitor on London Road. Now, it's time to turn that knowledge into action.

What You Can Expect:

To kick things off, we are running a free community event on 30th October in the Stanton Hall, led by Hannah Leatherland from Cheltenham Borough Council, Trish and Mark Barber from Clean Air Cheltenham, and Peter Frings, which will revisit key data on air quality in Charlton Kings and outline actionable steps we can take together to improve it.

Get Involved:

This is more than just a discussion—it's a call to action. With the launch of the "Charlton Kings Clean Air Action Group," with the support of our community we want to make tangible improvements in air quality. Whether it's through individual lifestyle changes or collective community efforts, there are many ways you can help. We're also excited to announce that local schools are already discussing how they can contribute, making this a true community effort.

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a community-led effort for cleaner air and a healthier future for Charlton Kings!

Ashley Manor School Fireworks Music and Funfair Night

Ashley Manor School Fireworks Music and Funfair Night

Sat, 2 Nov 2024 16:00

Location: Ashley Manor School, London Road, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham GL52 6NR

Following the huge success of the Chase Lane Fireworks display in November 2023, and with the kind permission of the Ashley Manor School Headmaster, Chase Lane are pleased to announce that this year's event will be organised, coordinated and delivered, top-to-bottom, by Chase Lane Fireworks, thus taking a huge administrative burden away from the school and bringing all the difficult stuff under one roof! The main display will be bigger than last year. We sadly can't go much louder as we must show due consideration to the neighbours; however, it will be visually more spectacular and offer the same and more stunning products to light up the night.

There will be an outstanding fireworks displays on offer, along with all the usual entertainments and catering outlets. Funfair thrills will be provided including rides for young and old, games and all the usual attractions associated with a Chase Lane event. Fabulous catering, including a bar (see the note below re public transport) will be available throughout the event. Music will be provided by Matt from Major Entertainments who will play all your favourite seasonal sounds to keep the atmosphere buzzing. This is a family-friendly event. We must stress that the fireworks event will be loud and therefore not suitable for the very young or for those who may suffer from illnesses or syndromes that could be affected by loud and sudden noises (learning difficulties/autism/PTSD etc). Ear protection is recommended for those with sensitive ears/hearing issues.

***PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING NOTICE REGARDING TRAVEL AND PARKING***

There is NO vehicular access to Ashley Manor School through the London Road gates. Access for vehicles displaying a valid disabled blue badge is via Ashley Road (off Greenway Lane). All pedestrian access is via the London Road gates (opposite the London Inn). It is recommended that visitors who live too far away to walk to the venue use the various bus options available from Cheltenham Town Centre. Bus services include 51, 801, B, H or S2 (please check timings prior to travel - not all of these services run into the evening). London Road is a very busy main road (the A40) and we must all do our bit to try and keep congestion to a minimum. Finally, please look after yourselves and your children. This will be a fantastic evening, but it will be a very busy event! Keep your children supervised and attended at all times. Be safe, have fun, eat, drink, be merry and, above all, smile lots

Dunkertons Cider Music and Fireworks Night

Dunkertons Cider Music and Fireworks Night

Mon, 4 Nov 2024 16:30

Location: London Road, Charlton Kings, England GL52 6UT

Chase Lane Fireworks are very excited to announce an evening of cider, fun and fireworks at Dunkerton's Cider Brewery on Monday 4 November 2024. Following discussions, and in collaboration with the excellent Dunkerton's Event Management Team, we have put together a fantastic evening's entertainment with all the usual Chase Lane Fireworks activities and entertainment. We have been advised that the venue can accommodate 1000 people, so book your tickets early to avoid disappointment!

It's hard to think of a better way to spend a Monday evening in November! Chase Lane Fireworks won the national fireworks championships at Ragley Hall last year and will be bringing competition-level fireworks to Dunkerton's. Expect a very special show indeed. Dunkerton's will be providing all the catering facilities so all their usual excellent food and drinks will be available throughout the evening. There will also be musical entertainment to keep everyone warmed up and the atmosphere charged. This is family friendly-event, with a firing time of 6.30pm so that our younger guests can still get to bed on time. However, we must stress that the fireworks will be very loud and therefore not suitable for the very young or for those who may suffer from illnesses or syndromes that could be affected by loud and sudden noises (learning difficulties/autism/PTSD etc). Ear protection is recommended for those with sensitive ears/hearing issues.

There is parking on-site which can be booked when purchasing tickets.

Film Screening: Six Inches of Soil

Film Screening: Six Inches of Soil

Tue, 12 Nov 2024 19:00

Six Inches of Soil is a British independent full feature documentary shining a spotlight on soil health and regenerative farming. It tells the inspiring story of young British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food - to heal the soil, our health and provide for local communities.

The aims of the film are to sound the alarm on a broken system, but to also give hope that there is a way to fix it; to inspire farmers to adopt agroecological and regenerative farming practices; and to encourage consumers, food corporations and policymakers to support their efforts.

Half the food we eat in the UK is produced by about 180,000 farmers, who manage 70% of our land. Current "industrial" mainstream farming practices significantly contribute to soil degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change. Regenerative farming practices, (within an agroecological system) promote healthier soils, provide healthier, affordable food, restore biodiversity and sequester carbon.

Six Inches of Soil is a story of three new farmers on the first year of their regenerative journey to heal the soil and help transform the food system - Anna Jackson, a Lincolnshire 11th generation arable and sheep farmer; Adrienne Gordon, a Cambridgeshire small-scale vegetable farmer; and Ben Thomas, who rears pasture fed beef cattle in Cornwall.

As the trio of young farmers strive to adopt regenerative practices and create viable businesses, they meet seasoned mentors - John Pawsey in Suffolk, Nic Renison in Cumbria and Marina O'Connell in Devon - who help them on their journey.

They are joined by other experts - Henry Dimbleby, Ian Wilkinson, Mike Berners-Lee, Vicki Hird, Dee Woods, Tim Lang, Hannah Jones, Satish Kumar, Nicole Masters, Tom Pearson - providing wisdom and solutions from a growing movement of people who are dedicated to changing the trajectory for food, farming and the planet.
